Every year, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) examines all facets of media in order to evaluate the level of inclusion and fair representation of a wide array of identities. GLAAD is one of the leading documenters of LGBT characters in television and film, and has broadened their assessment of media to include everything from blogs to articles. Recently, the organization announced its nominees for its 25th annual Media Awards, a chance to recognize those committed to expanding LGBT visibility through the media.
“The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives,” the organization explains. Categories for the awards include “Outstanding Film (Wide Release),” “Outstanding Comedy Series,” “Outstanding Mini-Series,” and many more.
