Ken Mehlman is reaching into new communities to campaign for gay rights. Mehlman was formerly a White House official for the Bush administration, and he was the chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2005 to 2007. After coming out in The Atlantic in 2010, Mehlman began to exercise his influence within the Republican party.
Ken Mehlman has helped win battles for same-sex marriage in New York, New Hampshire, Maryland, and Washington state. He has made the Republican case for marriage equality, an approach that few activists had attempted before, and he’s won quite a few conservatives to his cause.
Today Ken Mehlman continues to advocate for LGBT rights as a board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, and he looks forward to living in a country where every American enjoys the same rights.
