(New York, 19 September) — To kick-start a solidarity movement in support of women’s rights and full equality between women and men, UN Women held a special event for the HeForShe campaign from United Nations Headquarters in New York today.

In her new role as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, British actor and event co-host Emma Watson called on men and boys worldwide to join the movement for gender equality today. She was joined by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, along with actor Kiefer Sutherland and civil society representatives, in a discussion about the central role men and boys can play in the achievement of gender equality. CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer moderated the discussion.
