Your favorite Canadian music duo is making the battle for marriage equality a little bit sweeter. Tegan and Sara, twin indie musicians from the band of the same name, have teamed up with ice cream sandwich empire Coolhaus to raise awareness about LGBT rights. Although their music has never been overly political, the sisters have long been advocates for LGBT rights, and both of them identify openly as lesbian.
Both Coolhaus and Tegan and Sara are known for being upbeat, creative innovators in their fields. Coolhaus founders Natasha and Freya built their multi-city ice cream truck business with the image of creativity and sustainability in mind, and by putting immense passion into everything they do. Similarly, Tegan and Sarah have stayed true to their roots by being socially active in creative, artistic ways, and creating music that is highly identifiable with fans.
Tegan and Sara recently posted on their website, “After a grueling and delicious sampling session, we came up with what we thought was the best possible flavour combination to represent our commitment to marriage equality,” of their collaboration with Coolhaus. “Til Death Do Us Part” is a decadent ice cream sandwich created by the sisters that features double chocolate cookies and salted caramel ice cream. The musicians added, “We hope that when you eat it, your thoughts will be filled with how wonderful our world will be when all people are free to love and marry who they choose regardless of gender!”
The collaboration between Coolhaus and Tegan and Sara resulted in a cool treat with a sweet message. Visit the Coolhaus website to see where the trucks will be parked next, and make sure to try “Til Death Do Us Part” when Coolhaus is in your neighborhood!
